Drinking water directive

EUROPEAN UNION – DRINKING WATER DIRECTIVE

The objective of the European Council directive 98/83/EC of 3 November 1998 on quality of water intended for human consumption (Official Journal L 330, 05/12/1998) is to protect human health from the adverse effects of any contamination of water by ensuring that it is wholesome and clean.

The drinking water directive mentions the determination of tritium and total indicative dose.

New legislation (for 222Rn): European Council directive 2013/51/EURATOM of 22 October 2013 laying down requirements for the protection of the health of the general public with regard to radioactive substances in water intended for human consumption. It should be implemented till 28 November 2015.
